KOMPAN secures two design awards for their outdoor fitness equipment
Industry-leading playground and outdoor fitness equipment manufacture KOMPAN, has secured two Australian Good Design Awards in the 2021 Product Design Sport and Lifestyle category for their outdoor Cross Trainer and Arm Bike.
Cross Trainer
KOMPAN's Cross Trainer (pictured above) offers one of the best ergonomics on the market and empowers people of all ages and fitness levels to participate in cardiovascular training in outdoor public spaces freely. The trainer offers three user positions, including a sprint mode, and users can also train against ten adjustable resistance levels.
The Good Design Awards Jury noted "It's great to see the development of self-powered fitness equipment that can be connected to smart devices. This new concept is the gateway to a world of new possibilities when it comes to minimising environmental impact, boosting recyclability, and providing free access to high-quality fitness equipment in outdoor spaces. The solid design looks like it will survive the elements, while the organic shaping makes it appealing too. The designers should be particularly commended on the extreme durability of the design for public spaces. KOMPAN sets the bar for design excellence in this category, and they've raised it yet again with this design; well done."
Arm Bike
KOMPAN's Arm Bike delivers an intense upper body workout. Designed to be inclusive, the Arm Bike was developed to offer a highly versatile, fully functional and wheelchair accessible solution that can be used in a standing or seated position. Users also have the ability to adapt their workouts across ten resistance levels, making every workout effective.
The Good Design Awards Jury advised "Self-powered fitness equipment that can be connected to smart devices is an important development in this industry. This development opens up real possibilities to reduce environmental footprint, improve end of life recycling and provide free access to quality fitness equipment outside of an indoor gym environment.
“This rugged design looks like it will survive the elements but is still appealing to look at. It's particularly unique to have a product that provides users of all ages and abilities with three user positions; from a wheelchair, standing or seated on the ergonomic seat. The KOMPAN team have come up with a great solution. Overall, a standout project that ticks all the boxes for great design in this category. Well done."
The 2021 Good Design Awards attracted a record number of submissions with 933 design projects. Each entry was evaluated according to a strict set of design evaluation criteria, including good design, design innovation, and design impact. Projects recognised with an Australian Good Design Award demonstrate professional design excellence and highlight the impact a design-led approach has on business success and social and environmental outcomes.
Good Design Australia Chief Executive, Dr Brandon Given adds "receiving an Australian Good Design Award is testament to embedding design excellence at the heart of a product, service, place or experience. Although 2021 continues to be another challenging year, it is incredibly inspiring to see designers and businesses working together to find innovative, customer-centric design solutions to local and global challenges.”
KOMPAN shared that they “look forward to delivering many more quality outdoor fitness spaces and are excited to continuously benchmark the future of outdoor fitness with our evidence-based and innovative fitness solutions.”
