Muse Pilates looks to make movement accessible for all women

Muse Pilates, an innovative studio offering ‘real movement to real women’ is changing the way we talk about women’s bodies.

Reformer Pilates has long been associated with women who are fit, flexible and thin – but that’s a misconception Muse Pilates is hoping to change. Founded by Allana Frisken, Muse is on a mission to prove that you don’t need to look a certain way to enjoy reformer Pilates, and you don’t need to be super-fit, either.

Frisken advised “I opened the first Muse studio in Dulwich Hill, NSW, in 2019 with the idea to make reformer Pilates fun and accessible. A big focus was on having our clients feel comfortable in their bodies and empowered by their workouts.”

With 10 studios now open across NSW and the ACT, and a turnover of more than $6 million in the past 12 months, it’s clear the Muse Pilates message has struck a chord with Australian women.

Designed to empower women of every shape, size, age and experience level, each studio offers a range of classes to suit wherever women are on their fitness journey.

A new approach
With a diverse background in business, Frisken was inspired to open her first reformer Pilates studio after experiencing its benefits firsthand.

“I suffered a knee injury in 2008 and after undergoing surgery a few years later, I discovered reformer Pilates and the therapeutic benefits of its low-impact movements. I loved it so much that I wanted to share Pilates with everyone.”

With a desire to help people feel comfortable in their own bodies and empowered by movement, Frisken founded Muse and focused on creating a safe space for clients where they could exercise without judgment.

Frisken notes “everyone should be able to bounce out feeling better than they did when they walked in.”

Muse Pilates offers the following on their classes and studios:
The classes

Whether you’re a pro on the reformer or just beginning your strength and wellness journey, you’ll find a class that suits with friendly instructors on hand to guide you through every movement. From traditional reformer sessions, where you’ll focus on alignment and activation of your whole body, to heart-pumping Booty Burner and Jumpboard classes to rejuvenating Stretch & Release programs, your every need is covered.

The studios
With 10 locations across NSW and the ACT, each Muse Pilates studio offers clients an oasis of calm during their busy day. Thanks to the intimate nature of boutique studios, Muse members benefit from smaller class sizes, which in turn allows them to truly unwind and helps instructors provide more personalised feedback.

With floor-to-ceiling mirrors, ambient lighting and a welcoming community, stepping into a Muse Pilates studio is guaranteed to provide you with a moment of peace before getting back to the juggle of work and family life. Despite their intimate size, each studio abounds in luxury and is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities so clients walk out feeling like they’ve truly nurtured their body and their mind.
