ASICS aims to empower women to prioritise their health and fitness
Performance brand, ASICS, is launching its mission to 'move every mind' in order to address exercise inequality and to empower women to prioritise their health and fitness, even if they only have 15 minutes to spare in a day.
This mission comes in response to the ASICS State of Mind Index which uncovered a gender exercise gap, with the research indicating women are exercising significantly less than men, and as a result are potentially missing out on the positive mental and physical benefits that exercise brings. The research also showed that it only takes 15 minutes and nine seconds of movement to experience a positive uplift in mood.
As a next step, ASICS is launching a global live study, the move every mind mission, to better understand the social and environmental barriers preventing women from exercising and what needs to be done to help them to move freely. As part of the global live study, ASICS hopes to create a global community, bringing together thousands of women and men to share their stories and views on what they think needs to be done to tackle exercise inequality.
In Australia, there was a disparity of nine points between men (66/100) and women’s (57/100) State of Mind, which is the second largest disparity between genders out of the 16 countries that were surveyed. Additionally, the research found that there was a disparity of 60 minutes per week between men and women’s level of activity, which is also the second largest disparity between genders.
To support women further in this mission, the brand has launched the new NAGINOTM collection, designed by women for women. This collection has been purposefully crafted to inspire body confidence and enable women to run, train or move freely and undistracted.
Simone Bushnell, General Manager Marketing at ASICS notes “At ASICS we believe in the positive power of sport and movement – that it can transform us individually and as a community, that it can uplift our mind and bodies. Our research shows that a gender exercise gap persists, and we are passionate about creating a global community through the move every mind mission, bringing together thousands of women and men to share their stories and views on what they think needs to be done to tackle exercise inequality.
“We hope that our mission to move every mind will empower women to prioritise their health and fitness, even if they only have 15 minutes to spare in a day. We’re truly excited to see the positive impact this will have on women’s lives.”
