Quayclean team to educate Sydney Olympic Park visitors on correct recycling

A team from Quayclean Australia calling themselves ‘Waste Warriors’ will be moving through Sydney Olympic Park on Sunday, 27th March to educate the public about proper waste sorting.

The ‘Waste Warriors’ will move throughout the Parklands and distribute compostable bags and advise parkgoers how they can assist with correct recycling.

Sydney Olympic Park Authority (SOPA) is a long-term Quayclean customer and aims to achieve an 80% waste diversion rate within the next 12 months.

To support this objective, Quayclean has begun mobilising a new waste collection system and a new waste sorting system, in addition to its education and awareness drive.

On Sunday, park attendees will be provided separate compostable bags for recycled dry waste and for their organic wet waste.

Quayclean Chief Executive, Mark Piwkowski notes “getting organic waste into the correct organics bins is the first important step towards reducing waste contamination.

“If we can correctly capture waste at the source into the right sorting bins, this will accelerate diversion rates and help accelerate our 80% diversion goal at SOPA.

“We want to get people thinking more about how they discard their waste and assist our waste diversion program at SOPA.

“We will also be engaging with internal SOPA stakeholders such as Rangers to promote a sense of community and commitment to achieving waste diversion targets.”

Piwkowski said Quayclean’s services and responsibilities go beyond cleaning, hygiene, disinfection, and decontamination.

“As a business, we place a key focus on working with our customers in developing environmental solutions. Not only are these solutions great for our planet, but they produce positive financial results for our customers,” said Piwkowski
