Funlab opening in Christchurch helps activate EntX precinct
Entertainment and hospitality provider, Funlab are today opening their all-immersive fun-zone beneath the Hoyts cinema in the EntX building on Colombo Street in Christchurch.
The Funlab Zone, including Archie Bros Cirque Electriq circus-themed bar, arcade and bowling alley, along with the Holey Moley mini golf course activates what was previously a failed city centre attraction.
The two attractions are spread across about 1800 square metres and are designed to entertain families and teenagers during the day while then becoming an adult venue after 8pm, with the two bars serving bespoke cocktails.
The ground floor of the EntX building originally opened as a food court in 2019, but struggled to attract customers. The food outlets had all closed by the start of this year and work began on the new attraction.
Hoyts, the largest tenant in the EntX building with seven cinema screens and 900 seats, remains unaffected by the changes.
FunLab Chief Executive Michael Schreiber says the decision to launch in Christchurch was a response to the vibrant rejuvenation of the city centre.
Schreiber explains “when choosing where to next launch Archie Brothers Cirque Electriq and Holey Moley in New Zealand, we were excited by Christchurch as a city that is thriving in revitalised growth – we’re thrilled that our two hit entertainment spaces are set to elevate and add excitement to EntX in the city centre.”
Schreiber adds “the concept behind these two spaces is all about embracing nostalgic, unique fun - a chance to enjoy a social experience that really counterpoint our hugely digital lives.”
The hybrid opening is excitingly part of a wider relaunch of EntX Christchurch, the entertainment complex situated in the heart of the city centre.
Adam Copland, Director of Investment & Transactions at Mackersy Property is excited to see the space come alive and enthused “we’re thrilled to be relaunching EntX and hit the ground running with the opening of Archie Brothers Cirque Electriq and Holey Moley. This space is a vibrant addition to the EntX precinct and a huge win for the Christchurch community. We can’t wait to see more locals venturing into the city to experience all the food and entertainment excitement that EntX and the city centre has to offer.”
