Domain Stadium celebrates largest ever event

The West Australian Football Commission (WAFC) has shared details of the hosting of the largest ever event at Perth’s Domain Stadium, with Adele captivating 65,000 fans in a stunning performance last night (28th February).

Adele became the fastest and highest selling individual artist ever for a concert at Domain Stadium when tickets went on sale for the first stop of her inaugural Australian tour.

WAFC Chief Executive Officer Gavin Taylor said the WAFC was thrilled to have hosted the first concert of Adele’s national tour and her first ever stadium performance.

Taylor explained “it was an amazing event and such an exciting opportunity for West Australians to be the first in the world to see Adele perform inside a stadium “The WAFC’s stadium management team and more than 1000 staff that they coordinated for the event did an amazing job in delivering a truly memorable experience.

“I would also like to thank all of the fans for being so considerate and well behaved on the night, their patience getting into and out of the stadium, as well as the Public Transport Authority for the outstanding role they played in getting so many people to and from the event.

“Thanks also to key WAFC partners Live Nation, Delaware North and Ticketmaster for supporting this event and making it such a great experience for everyone involved.”

After a busy start to the year which has already included hosting the Adele and Guns N’ Roses concerts, managing AFL Women’s games and the West Coast v Fremantle game in Geraldton, the WAFC now turns its full attention to ensuring the playing surface at Domain Stadium meets AFL standards for next week’s JLT Community Series Games on 9th and 10th March.

Taylor added “I am pleased with the condition of the turf post-concert as we now move into replacing approximately a quarter of the playing surface over the next 72 hours with ready-to-play jumbo turf rolls.”

The jumbo turf rolls will be installed using the same process that is undertaken for the replacement of the centre square during the AFL season, with additional machinery and personnel on standby to work 24/7 if required to ensure the timeline is met.

An AFL turf consultant will work alongside WAFC staff to ensure the playing surface meets AFL standards for the JLT Community Series Games.

• Installation of ready-to-play jumbo turf rolls using the same process undertaken for the replacement of the centre square during the AFL season

• An AFL turf consultant will ensure the playing surface meets AFL standards
