30 kilometres of new MTB trails opened at Warburton Bike Path in Victoria’s Yarra Ranges
Aiming to deliver fresh trails for diverse riding preferences and skill levels, the first 30 kilometres of the Warburton Bike Path has opened in Victoria’s Yarra Ranges.
Part of a network that, when complete, will offer 125 kilometres of trails through the Yarra State Forest, with terrain and features to suit a huge variety of riding styles, the trails range across the hills of Mount Little Joe, Mount Tugwel, Mt Bride and Mt Donna Buang, connecting with the popular Lilydale-Warburton Rail Trail and the O’Shannassy Aqueduct Trail.
Explaining what to expect of the first stage of trails, Yarra Ranges Council Senior Project Manager, Matt Harrington advised “of the first 30km, about 22km of that is green trail.
"There is one black trail and one blue trail from the summit of Mount Little Joe - which are awesome by the way. Especially the black trail, it’s a cracker, but we want to set expectations.”
"The Warburton Bike Park, from its initial proposal in 2010 to the Parks Victoria's Healthy Parks Healthy People program, had an ambitious but clear vision: create Australia's best mountain bike trails while simultaneously bringing economic and social revitalisation to the region. Over the following years, this initiative gained momentum through extensive feasibility studies, detailed planning work, community consultation, and comprehensive environmental impact investigations."
