GymBetter initiative gives clubs access to 3.9 million Medibank members
Australia’s leading gyms brands, including Fitness First, Goodlife and Anytime Fitness, have partnered with Medibank, Australia’s largest health insurer, to give Medibank’s 3.9 million members access to no contract, pay as you go gym usage.
Introducing the GymBetter pass, Medibank explain “we are supplementing the existing user base of gyms by introducing a group of Australians who are more likely to be health insurance customers.
“These customers are less likely to commit to typical fixed term deal with a gym - such as a 12-month contract - but see value in paying as they go, at a gym location that suits them. “This new and varied client base is complementary to the gym networks existing client base and is broadening the total gym market through greater flexibility and accessibility.”
In addition to providing Medibank members and the Australian public with greater access to fitness facilities across the nation, GymBetter also enables our network of gyms to gain greater national media exposure and marketing presence of their brands through their partnership with Medibank.
Launched in January this year as part of Medibank’s Generation Better campaign, the GymBetter pass followed member feedback to Medibank that found large numbers of members were keen to use fitness facilities but found them financially limiting.
Developed by Medibank and available as an iOS app and a mobile-optimised web site, GymBetter offer access to more than 500 gyms for a fixed fee.
Members using the technology can search for a gym by using their current location or by entering a place name or postcode. Once they have located a gym they want to visit, they purchase an access pass within the app (via credit card).
As the app stores basic details, it removes the need to fill out forms when they visit the gym.
Passes cost $11.95 each, or $8.50 for Medibank members with hospitals and extras cover. For those purchasing eight passes in a calendar month, any subsequent visits are free – meaning exercisers can have a no-contract gym membership for $95.60 a month, or $68 if for Medibank members.
