City of Maitland aquatic facilities secure near-perfect Royal Life Saving safety rating
Maitland City Council’s aquatic facilities have been recognised for the safe operations having achieved a near-perfect score in this year’s Royal Life Saving Australia Aquatics Facility Safety Assessment (AFSA).
The AFSA provides insight into a facility’s safe pool operations in comparison to Australian Standards, and involves a rigorous 40-point aquatic safety checklist.
This year, Maitland Aquatic Centre was given a 99% safety rating out of 100, which is up from last year’s score of 98%, and it also maintained a 99% five-star Safety Partner Accreditation score.
East Maitland Aquatic Centre was the big winner, retaining its 98% safety rating from 2024 and achieving a perfect 100% five-star score.
Maitland City Council’s Coordinator Aquatics, Suellen Goyne says the achievement was “a huge win for our community”, noting “our aquatics team works extremely hard each and every day to maintain high standards at our facilities and these results prove our strong commitment to aquatic safety
“The real winners are our community who can rest assured they will continue to enjoy a safe and fun environment when visiting Maitland’s aquatic centres.”
