Royal Life Saving Australia launches 7th Edition Swimming & Lifesaving manual

Royal Life Saving Australia has officially released the 7th edition of its Swimming & Lifesaving manual, the preferred reference book for teaching swimming and water safety.

The Swimming & Lifesaving manual is for the first time being offered in eBook format - providing instant, multi-device access to lifesaving knowledge.

The latest edition covers general water safety information, including dangers and safety actions for a range of aquatic environments and activities, the techniques and underpinning knowledge for survival skills, swimming and survival strokes, lifesaving principles, rescue, resuscitation, and emergency care.

Royal Life Saving Australia advise “Swimming & Lifesaving, first published under its current title in 1982, has a deep-rooted history. The first entirely Australian edition was published in 1957, but before that, Australia used UK editions and produced its own version of the manual using UK content.

“Over the decades, the content has been continually updated to reflect improved techniques and broaden information while maintaining the same vital goal - to educate and train the public in lifesaving skills and knowledge.”

A Must-Have Resource
Royal Life Saving Australia notes the 7th Edition of Swimming & Lifesaving is a "must-have resource for swim teachers, lifesaving instructors, school teachers, secondary school students, young adults, and the general community wanting to learn about water safety to keep themselves and others safe when enjoying water."

For educators: It provides an instructional reference guide for teaching swimming and lifesaving programs and awards. It outlines prescriptive techniques for a wide range of skills, supported by detailed images and diagrams to assist in teaching lifesaving skills.

For lifesaving participants: It provides the underpinning information about the skills they must demonstrate to achieve community lifesaving awards such as the Bronze Star and Bronze Medallion. The content within the manual is used to test participants' understanding of the theory components of the awards.

For the general community: It provides a valuable resource to learn all aspects of water safety, lifesaving, resuscitation and emergency care, which will help keep them and loved ones safe in and around the water.

New eBook Format: Accessible, Interactive, and Always Up to Date
For the first time, the 7th edition of the Swimming & Lifesaving manual is available in a digital eBook format that is designed to make the resource more accessible and user-friendly.
