Brisbane Aquatic Centre secures Royal Life Saving Gold Safety Endorsement
Royal Lifesaving’s Gold Safety endorsement status has been awarded to Brisbane Aquatic Centre located at the Sleeman Sports Complex in recognition of their aquatic facility operations in 2024-25.
The Platinum Pools Program, introduced in Queensland in 2021, recognises aquatic facilities that meet the highest standards in safety and risk management through a comprehensive quality audit conducted by Royal Life Saving.
Assessed against the Guidelines for Safe Pool Operations (GSPO), Australian standards, FINA standards, and relevant state legislation, only facilities demonstrating consistently high levels of compliance and safety management are endorsed. To achieve the award, each facility must undergo a rigorous series of assessments to ensure it meets all Royal Life Saving’s accreditation criteria.
Royal Life Saving Society Queensland State Manager Nikki Thornhill said the endorsements are a way of recognising those facilities that are striving towards and attaining the highest levels of safety requirements against known standards and are a significant and positive step for the Brisbane Aquatic Centre.
Thornhill advised “it is pleasing to see such a high-level venue take a proactive and leading approach in the provision of aquatic safety management.
“Brisbane Aquatic Centre are among a select few venues throughout Queensland to achieve this very difficult rating and have proactively been working hard over the past two years to ensure the venue makes this achievement.”
Included in the award is completion of the national Royal Life Saving Aquatic Facility Safety Assessment, Lifeguard Mystery Guest Assessments and adherence to a Royal Life Saving child supervision program.
Stadiums Queensland, Sleeman’s Sports Complex General Manager, Alex Hutchison said the venue is proud to be working in partnership with the Royal Life Saving Society.
Hutchison added “Stadiums Queensland and the team at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre are extremely proud of their achievements and the Gold endorsement of the venue by Royal Lifesaving Queensland. Royal Life’s Platinum Pools Program is a key element to the success and safety of the venue and will continue to play a pivotal role in this area for years to come.
“Achieving Royal Life Saving safety endorsements are further evidence of Brisbane Aquatic Centre’s strong commitment to safety and service excellence”.
The endorsements are tiered based on the level of performance against the available standards, including the Royal Life Saving Society – Australia Guidelines for Safe Pool Operations.
All public aquatic facilities, commercial swim schools and education institution pools are eligible to participate in the program, however, endorsements will only be issued to facilities which successfully achieve the hurdle requirements, including a high compliance score against relevant standards, legislation and industry guidelines.
