Belgravia Group commits to boosting physical activity among Australian children

Belgravia Group Chairman and Chief Executive Geoff Lord has today announced his commitment to boosting physical activity among one million children across Australia per year, launching the Belgravia Foundation at an industry breakfast in Melbourne.

Introducing the registered charity to a crowd of more than 300 industry stakeholders, Lord advised “Belgravia Group is going to achieve this target through our new initiatives, Belgravia Kids and the Belgravia Foundation.

“People who face financial hardship, distress, inequity or other barriers will be able to get help from the Belgravia Foundation.”

Many of the activities will be delivered by new Belgravia Group division Belgravia Kids, headed by former Gymnastics Australia Chief Executive Mark Rendell, which will provide swimming and water safety lessons and gymnastics for children and teens in vibrant community hubs in Australia’s growth suburbs.

Lord (pictured below) commented “Belgravia Kids will be a safe space for children to play, learn and be engaged in their community.”

Both organisations will work in partnership with Belgravia Group’s health and leisure companies and franchise networks, Belgravia Leisure, Genesis Fitness, Coaching Zone, Ninja Parc, Australian Sports Camps and Community Sports Camps, to improve health and wellbeing outcomes among people in Australia’s marginalised communities, as well as children across the country.

Having backed a significant number of business ventures across the leisure industry throughout his professional life, with an ongoing commitment to activity among all ages groups and a particular concern at how the latest Active Healthy Kids Australia (AHKA) report card scored Australia a D- in overall physical activity levels, Lord concluded “I believe we can do more to tackle the increasingly sedentary lifestyle of our children, which can lead to chronic conditions such as obesity, Type 2 Diabetes and heart disease.

“The Belgravia Foundation will work hand in glove with Belgravia Group health and leisure facilities to engage children in physical activity and good old fashioned face-to-face social interaction.”

Belgravia Foundation is a registered charity established to connect people with a disability or experiencing disadvantage to a Belgravia Group aquatic, fitness, sports or recreation facility in over 200 locations across Australian metropolitan and regional areas.
