Plans revealed for surf simulator and mini-golf course at Hillarys Boat Harbour

Plans for for a FlowRider surf simulator and pirate-themed mini-golf course have been revealed for the former Great Escape site at Hillarys Boat Harbour in northern metropolitan Perth.

Hillarys operator Wyllie Group have advised that, if approved, construction of the $5 million attraction would start within months.

The development, from Pirate’s Cove Adventure Golf, is with the Western Australian Planning Commission for approval but Wyllie Group said it had already received support in principle from the Department of Transport and the City of Joondalup.

Once approved, construction works would start later this year and be done in three stages to ensure that part of the facility is open for the 2019 summer holidays.

The plan includes two 18-hole pirate-themed mini golf courses and a FlowRider Double surf machine set in a themed and animated tropical landscape including a pirate ship, lagoons and ‘erupting’ volcano.

Under the tentative timetable for the three-stage development, the mini golf would open in March, the cafe, small bar and beach kiosk in April and the FlowRider would be running from October.

The former The Great Escape attraction closed in June 2016 and was cleared at the end of last year.

Since then the site has remained vacant.
