New amusement park to open in WA's Margaret River
Douglas G. Campbell, founder of The Great Escape at Hillarys Boat Harbour and the man who introduced waterslides to Australian 35 years ago, is set to launch a new amusement park in the Margaret River region of Western Australia.
Set to open this weekend (17th November) in Dunsborough, the Xscape at the Cape Fun Park occupies an 11,000 metre2 parcel of land and will feature an interactive 18 hole miniature golf course; Jump 'n'Tramps above ground netted trampolines; an 11 metre high 'vertical reality' Jungle Mountain; a large turreted Little Tykes Tiki Mountain KidZone area, with a Tiki Island Inflatable; and a Rio Grande Zamperla Kiddies Train.
The attraction also features a substantial wooden maze, The Mine Shaft Maze, with a Vortex tunnel entry incorporated within the maze and an associated ice cream business, The Millers Ice Creamery.
Campbell, Director and Proprietor of family company Fernhall Pty Ltd has been involved in the attractions industry for the past 40 years having owned and constructed four amusement parks and been actively involved in the development and design of a range of attractions in Western Australia.
In 2010, Campbell sold one leading Perth attraction The Great Escape at Hillarys Boat Harbour two years ago and, after a break, channelled his enthusiasm, drive and passion into the development, construction and operation of the Xscape at the Cape Fun Park and the associated ice cream business.
The new development has seen Fernhall partnered with the local Miller Family, who have been dairy farming within the region since 1932, to manufacture ice cream straight from the cow delivering ice cream from the paddock to the cone all within two hours.
One of Campbell's visions for Xscape at the Cape Fun Park is to provide a destination for families and groups to enjoy time together in a healthy, challenging and safe environment. The majority of the attractions at the free-to-enter park have been specifically selected to encourage, develop and strengthen interactions and communications between its guests.
