Future uncertain for Perth's Hillarys Great Escape waterpark
Popular Perth amusement and water park Great Escape has reportedly closed and is facing an uncertain future, with the lease having run out for the current operators and the attraction's telephone apparently disconnected.
According to a report in WAToday, property management agency the Wyllie Group has a long-term lease with the Western Australian Department of Transport covering parts of the commercial retail and recreation space of Hillarys Boat Harbour - including the Great Escape.
Wyllie Group Chief Operating Officer Todd Morcombe told WAToday that the park's closure was due to a tenancy issue, stating "the current operator no longer has the lease, so we are desperately looking to fill that tenancy."
The Great Escape has long been a popular attraction at the Hillarys Boat Harbour with its waterslides operating during the summer season and its other attractions, including a ropes course, operating year round.
However, the park has apparently been closed for 'maintenance' since June.
With the waterslides having been scheduled to re-open at the weekend, sources told WAtoday employees had received letters of termination from the business.
