Oak Park Sports and Aquatic Centre and Coburg Leisure Centre maintain Quality Business Accreditation with AUSactive

Active Merri-bek’s Oak Park Sports and Aquatic Centre and Coburg Leisure Centre have maintained their Quality Business Accreditation with AUSactive - reinforcing their strong commitment to safety, service excellence, and industry best practice.

The accreditation recognises both centres - operated by Y Victoria in partnership with Merri-bek City Council - as leading examples of how local government health and fitness facilities can deliver exceptional community impact while maintaining the highest operational standards.

Bridie Chesterfield, Centre Manager at Coburg Leisure Centre, said the accreditation is a reflection of the team’s deep-rooted commitment to service and safety.

Chesterfield noted “maintaining our AUSactive accreditation reflects Active Merri-bek’s commitment to meeting the highest industry standards. We use the insights and knowledge gained through the process to continually refine our services and programming.

“As Y Victoria-run facilities, safety is embedded in our culture. We’re proud to be recognised by AUSactive, the industry’s peak body and to work alongside them to ensure our community receives quality services that help them lead healthier and happier lives.”

With over 3,600 members across both centres, and a combined total of 184 group fitness classes each week, the facilities are more than just places to exercise - they are vital hubs for physical and social wellbeing in the Merri-bek community.

Chesterfield added “we work closely with our partners at Merri-bek City Council to understand our community’s health priorities.

“This ensures every member - from the moment they’re welcomed by our customer service team to when they engage with our trainers or group fitness staff - is supported by professionals who are equipped with the knowledge and care to help them thrive.”

At the heart of both centres is a focus on going above and beyond for members. With a structured journey from initial gym consultation through to regular check-ins and program reviews, customers enjoy an experience that is not only consistent but tailored to their evolving health needs.

AUSactive Chief Executive Barrie Elvish commended the ongoing dedication of both teams.

Elvish advised “this accreditation is a reflection of the consistent professionalism and passion shown by the teams at Oak Park and Coburg.

“Delivering quality services requires more than facilities - it takes a strong commitment to safety, community engagement and continuous improvement. These centres are doing exactly that and more, and we’re pleased to see them recognised again.”

Both centres continue to play a significant role in fostering physical activity and social connection in Merri-bek, offering more than just gym access or swimming pools - they provide community, inclusion, and purpose.
