Belgravia Leisure ACT Venues receive Royal Life Saving 5-Star Accreditation

In an impressive feat accomplished within just a month of taking on the management of the ACT Government’s aquatic and recreation venues, Belgravia Leisure has achieved Royal Life Saving 5-Star Accreditation for all five facilities - the Stromlo Leisure Centre, Lakeside Leisure Centre, Gungahlin Leisure Centre, Dickson Pool and Canberra Olympic Pool.

With Royal Life Saving encouraging users in the ACT and NSW to seek out 5 Star Water Safety Partner venues, these swimming pools have all passed a rigorous 40-point aquatic safety check and demonstrate a strong commitment to aquatic safety standards.

The check list has been sourced from the Guidelines for Safe Pool Operation (GSPO), the established industry safety standard designed to maximise the safety of all aquatic facilities. The GSPO guides swimming pool operators on the safe operation of swimming facilities, outlining best practice standards and legislative requirements.

The GSPO take a risk management approach to areas such as general and technical operations of swimming pool, first aid, facility design, supervision, swimming programs and low patronage pools.

Emphasising the company’s commitment to leading the industry in aquatic safety and legislative compliance, Belgravia Leisure National Aquatic Safety Manager, Scott Vanderheyden commented “the NSW team has been conducting annual aquatic facility safety assessments in collaboration with Royal Life Saving NSW/ACT/TAS for all aquatic venues which now includes our newly acquired ACT venues.

“We are extremely proud of our ACT team and the broader support team for prioritising the safety of our new venues and completing their 5-star accreditation with Royal Life Saving NSW/ACT/TAS within the first month of transitioning over to Belgravia Leisure. Ensuring the community can continue to enjoy these remarkable venues with confidence that they are operating in line with current standards and practices.

“These venues stand as essential community spaces, embracing individuals of all ages and abilities and we are dedicated to creating and delivering programs that prioritise safety, fun, innovation, accessibility and consistent high quality for the health and well-being of the communities they serve.”
