New Director General at Western Australia’s Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport

The Western Australian Government has announced the appointment of Chad Anderson as the new Director General at its Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport (WA CITS).

Anderson is described as bringing “over 20 years’ leadership experience across federal, state and territory governments with a strong track record in the finance, education, sport and tourism sectors” to the role.

He was most recently the Deputy Director General of Tourism at the Queensland Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation where he had responsibility for setting strategic direction and leading the Tourism industry across Queensland.

He previously held senior positions at the Queensland Department of Tourism, Innovation and Sport; the Queensland Department of Housing and Works; and the Australian Sports Commission. Anderson has also represented Australia as a professional triathlete.

His appointment follows Western Australian Premier Roger Cook’s announcement earlier this year, regarding a range of changes across the public sector.

Advising that he is excited about the move to the department (and Western Australia!), and the new opportunities it presented, Anderson (pictured) stated “‘I’m really looking forward to working with the team at CITS in my new role as Director General.

“The department’s breadth of work is truly inspiring and I’m eager to contribute from day one.

“I look forward to collaborating with our industry stakeholders and teams across the department to deliver on the WA Government’s agenda to drive economic diversification through the creative industries, sport and recreation, multicultural interests and tourism.”

Anderson started in his new role on Monday.

WA CITS has also appointed Steve Tuohey to the role of Senior Communications Officer.
