CoastWA delivers $3 million for 27 projects to safeguard Western Australia's coastline

The recipients of the 2025-26 CoastWA grants have been announced by the Western Australian Government with $3.01 million to be shared across 27 projects to safeguard the state’s coastline from critical coastal hazards.

Since 2020, the CoastWA grants program has invested more than $25.4 million across 246 coastal projects to combat the impact of a changing climate on WA's coastline.

CoastWA supports coastal land managers and community groups undertaking critical conservation, education and adaptation projects as well as management plans to boost local resilience to erosion and inundation.

Key recipients of the 2025-26 grants pool include:

  • City of Mandurah - $1.32 million to upgrade the Town Beach seawall to improve protection against coastal erosion and public safety;

  • City of Wanneroo - $200,000 for beach renourishment works at Quinns Beach and Yanchep Lagoon to bolster coastal protection and beach accessibility;

  • Shire of Ashburton - $93,266 to review the Onslow Coastal Hazard Risk Management and Adaptation Plan to ensure appropriate management of coastal erosion and inundation threats; and

  • Perth NRM - $60,000 for dune stabilisation and protection projects along Perth's northern coastline, involving schools, community groups and local governments.

Through their projects, grant recipients will also deliver more than $3.36 million in cash or in-kind contributions - more than $1 for every grant dollar invested.

The State Government also announced it will provide emergency funding of $150,000 the Shire of Gingin to address rapid erosion of the Lancelin northern foreshore.

The erosion is currently threatening beach access, public safety and the Lancelin Sands Hotel.

CoastWA grants are provided through the Coastwest and Coastal Management Plan Assistance Program grants, administered by the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage on behalf of the Western Australian Planning Commission, and the Coastal Adaptation and Protection and Hotspot Coastal Adaptation and Protection Major Project Fund grants are administered by the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure.
