Western Australia’s Screen Industry secures funding boost of $5 million

The Western Australian Government has invested $5 million, delivered through Screenwest, to fast-track growth in key sectors of the local screen industry ahead of the opening of the Perth Film Studios in 2026.

The expanded Targeted Industry Capacity Building Program will enable businesses to scale up to provide infrastructure and services that will build capacity in targeted areas of the screen industry and support Western Australia's economic diversification.

The program will target bold ideas to increase the capacity of key screen production sectors, including camera, grips and lighting equipment; rigging equipment; set construction and standby props equipment, art department, catering, screen production support facilities and special effects.

This will reduce the need to import equipment and services from the eastern states during screen production and increase the economic return for WA.

It is expected over the next 10 years Perth Film Studios will attract up to 10% of Australia's annual screen productions, compared to the current 1%.
