Mould in ventilation system causes closure of Jindabyne Pool
Snowy Monaro Regional Council has advised that Jindabyne Pool is closed, effective immediately due to the discovery of mould during a routine investigation linked to the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system upgrade project.
In the interest of safety Council has decided to close the facility until remediation works can be undertaken with Council noting that it is necessary for the pool to be closed to the public while this maintenance is carried out.
There is no short term solution to remediate the mould. The condensation/moisture problem caused by the HVAC system must be remedied before the mould can be addressed.
Council adds that while every endeavour has been made to identify a solution to keep the pool open, this is not possible and due to health and safety concerns, the pool must be closed immediately.
Jindabyne Pool will not be reopened until a post-remediation verification is completed by an independent environmental health consultant. This cannot occur until the HVAC system is replaced, which may also require structural steel repairs to be undertaken ahead of HVAC system replacement.
Further updates will be provided as work progresses and a reopening date has been scheduled.
