Miami Aquatic Centre reopens following major upgrade

The Gold Coast’s central suburbs will benefit from two upgraded local sporting venues, with works complete on the $18 million Miami Aquatic Centre redevelopment and a $4.6 million upgrade underway on the skate park underway in Pizzey Park.

The popular Miami Aquatic Centre, operated by City Venue Management and home to Rackley Swimming, now offers a new and fully accessible 50 metre outdoor pool, an indoor heated learn to swim pool, a splash pool and pool deck café.

Speaking today, Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said locals, athletes and sporting clubs would all benefit from the world-class facilities, commenting “I’m pleased to open our upgraded Miami Aquatic Centre and welcome new patrons to the facility.

“With the population of the surrounding area expected to exceed 40,000 people in the next two decades, it’s vital we continue to invest in local infrastructure so we can meet the needs of our growing city.”

Commenting on the upgrades to the skate park, Mayor Tate added “Pizzey Park continues to be one of our city’s most popular and largest parks, home to 25 sporting clubs and used by tens of thousands of people each week.

“The skate park extension will be built to Olympic standards and will transform the area into Australia’s premier skateboarding destination, allowing us to attract more high-performance sporting events.”

Excited at the reopening of the Miami Aquatic Centre, City Venue Management Managing Director, Jay Clarke advised “having operated the venue for the past 12 years, we know how much it means to the local community.

“Now, our community will have a revitalised and first-class facility to enjoy healthy, active lifestyles.

“In addition to the new 50 metre, 10-lane outdoor pool, there’s also a brand-new indoor heated programs pool; perfect for Rackley Swimming’s Learn to Swim programs, as well as for rehabilitation use.

“The addition of our Pool Deck Café will be another great offering for all of our visitors - as it will provide fresh healthy food prepared by our onsite chefs! And thanks to the venue’s strong focus on accessibility, we’ll be able to deliver even more services to people with a disability.”

Tomorrow (15th May) will see the venue host a series of family-friendly activities.

The Miami Aquatic Centre redevelopment included:

• Transforming the original eight lane 50-metre outdoor pool into a multi-functional 10 lane pool with disability access ramp and partial shade coverage

• A new learn-to-swim pool and water play area

• Reception and administration area with first aid and public amenities

Beyond the current works, the facility’s current 50-metre 10 lane pool will be upgraded within the next four years.
