Work underway on upgrades at the Gladstone Aquatic Centre
Gladstone Regional Council has revealed that a program of works to bring the Gladstone Aquatic Centre “swimming pool complex back to an acceptable and accommodating standard” is underway.
At a meeting at the beginning of last month, Councillors unanimously voted to enter a contract with T&C Services Pty Ltd for the $793,000 Gladstone Aquatic Centre Rejuvenation Phase Two works.
Works will include a refurbishment of the facility’s male and female change rooms, construction of two new disabled toilet and shower cubicles, construction of three new family change rooms and installation of new roof framing to both the main amenities building, kiosk servery and entry portal.
It will also include minor landscaping and planting works.
In a report to Council on the works, it was stated that a qualified contractor was required to undertake the renewal project, with the report stating “the Gladstone Aquatic Centre is a significant Council asset and is used by the Gladstone community on a daily basis.”
The original Memorial Swimming Centre was constructed in 1975, followed by the addition of a multi-purpose pool and building extension in 1988 and 1998 respectively.
