Splash Zone opens at the Gladstone Aquatic Centre

The Gladstone Aquatic Centre has opened its aquatic playground for the 2014/15 summer season.

First opened in November last year, the $2.5 million aquatic play park and splash pad features two childrens’ water slides, water jets, cannons, sprays and bubblers, a toddler's pool and a big tipper bucket as its central attraction.

The six-metre high structure can fill with 500 litres of water in nine seconds, before dumping the bucket-load on eager children below.

Designed for interactivity and educational appeal, the Splash Zone water play park is open to supervised under 12-year-olds.

Speaking prior to the opening of the SplashZone last year, Gladstone Regional Council Parks and Recreation portfolio spokesperson Councillor Graham McDonald said the Gladstone Aquatic Centre is the “jewel-in-the-crown” for the region, providing facilities and activities for residents and visitors.

Councillor McDonald stated “the water play park has been mooted for Gladstone for a long time, so Council is extremely happy to have been able to deliver this project.”
