Moreton Bay Regional Council to buy gym and swimming pool that it will not operate

Moreton Bay Regional Council has revealed that it is purchasing the Club Arana swim school and fitness centre in the suburb of Arana Hills north of Brisbane.

However, with the facility to close as of 14th October, it will not reopen or operate the venue, opting to commence planning for the future use of the site after settlement.

Moreton Bay Councillor Matt Constance told local media last week that the Council had a contract in place to purchase the Club Arana building and would have ownership by mid-October.

He advised “it was a strategic purchase by Council that will provide opportunities for council to activate the Arana Hills precinct in the future."

The purchase, he said, was a chance to provide a new community space at Arana Hills in a “strategic location” near the Hills District PCYC and Leslie Patrick Park.

Councillor Constance added “the seller has had the gym and pool on the market for two years as he is ready to retire.”

A statement on the Club Arana advises “we will be closing on the 14th of October 2019.”

Confusingly, it adds “(there will be) no more group fitness classes but gym will remain open 24hrs.”

It adds a personal statement “I would also like to thank all of our customers over the past 32 years. It has been an honour to meet and be of service to you all.  We wish you all the very best for wherever the next chapter of life takes us, may you all stay safe, happy, healthy and wealthy.

"Thank you, We'll miss you all.”

Equipment from the gym is now being sold via Grays Online, with the website advising “all equipment not sold will be put into storage.”

The Council has not disclosed how much it paid for the site.
