Hamilton City Council reveals series of pool upgrade works
A series of planned upgrades and maintenance work, including a large roof repair, will see one of Hamilton City’s Council’s two swimming complexes close for two weeks in July.
With the ageing Waterworld facility undergoing planned maintenance and repairs each year, to ensure a 1089 metre² roof repair - and other improvements - are completed safely and swiftly this year, the entire complex will close from 12th to 25th July.
Unit Director of Community Services Helen Paki said it was important to close the entire facility to keep the community safe during such a robust piece of work.
Paki advised “Waterworld is an old and beloved place, so we need to make sure it is kept well-maintained for those who use it.
“This roof repair will future-proof the facility, so our customers remain safe in years to come. We also have some exciting upgrades planned, including new handrails being installed to the bleachers. This will be an important addition ahead of the Special Olympics events being held there in December.”
Paki also noted that the roof repair was carefully chosen to coincide with one of the quietest times of year.
There will also be several specific closures – such as the full or partial closures of the dive pool and car parks – before and after the full closure. This so several upgrades, improvements and maintenance jobs can be completed over this period.
Paki added “closing the entire facility is never ideal and we appreciate everyone’s understanding when it has to happen. The good news is, the Gallagher Aquatic Centre is another fantastic place for the community to swim during Waterworld’s short closure.”
The Gallagher Aquatic Centre will have special discounts available during the school holidays, with $5 swims available for adults and $2 swims for children. The complex, which has a 25-metre pool and toddler pool, is open from 6am to 8pm Monday to Friday and 7.30am to 8pm on Saturday and Sunday.
In addition to currently underway works which will see mobility car parks to the entrance relocated while scaffolding is set up for the roof repair, which should be completed by 14th June, the following works are planned.
14th June to 11th July: During this time, the main public changing rooms will be closed, with additional changing rooms set up instead.
14th June to 11th July: Gym Group Fitness Studio will be closed between these dates for the roof renewal. A new timetable has been created with many classes still to be delivered from Beerescourt Bowling Club.
14th June to 11th July: During this time, the spa, steam room and sauna will be closed for the roof renewal.
14th June to 11th July: Waterworld Gym will remain open, but one corner of the gym will be boarded off while windows are removed.
14th June to 11th July: The Strength Room will be closed during this time, due to the roof repair.
14th June to 11th July: The Hydrotherapy pool will be accessed through the external doors, located beside the mobility parking. Babies Learn to Swim classes will be relocated from the hydrotherapy pool to the 25metre pool.
5th July to October: The dive pool will close while it undergoes important repairs, such as filter replacement in the pool and the replacement of the dive tower stairs.
12th to 25th July: The entire Waterworld facility will be closed during this time, while the roof is repaired.
