Liverpool City Council opens 15th outdoor gym

Liverpool City Council’s ongoing commitment to providing free outdoor community gyms for its residents has seen the opening of its 15th outdoor gym at Cameron Park.

Having been successful in gaining funding under the Federal Government’s Healthy Communities Initiative, the Council is delivering a range of programs aimed at improving the health and well-being of its residents.

Among these initiatives, the Live Well in Liverpool – Healthy Communities Initiative targets issues of overweight and obesity in Liverpool focusing on the long term unemployed, Aboriginal, CALD and refugee people. The program involves physical exercise programs that aim to enhance positive health behaviours in the daily lives of people who experience disadvantage.

The Cameron Park equipment was installed by a_space Recreation Pty Ltd (a_space) and represents a significant milestone for the Scoresby, Victoria-based company, with Liverpool Council having been the first ever Fit for Parks customer when the Chipping Norton outdoor gym was opened in 2011.

The Council has also re-opened Kelso Skate Park facility following a recent upgrade.

Commenting on the new facilities, Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller stated “local residents and park users will love the improved amenities.

“These highly valued community assets provide fantastic recreation space for Liverpool’s growing population.”
