Fairfield Leisure Centre gym introduces 24/7 opening
The gym at the Fairfield Leisure Centre has introduced 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week opening as of Monday 1st February 2016.
The introduction of 24/7 access is in response to the changing needs of members, who have expressed the desire to have the gym hours extended.
Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said he was pleased to announce another Council initiative that aimed to make Fairfield a better place for families to live.
Mayor Carbone stated “Fairfield Leisure Centre’s gym will be open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to accommodate all schedules.
“We hope the extended hours will improve the convenience level for members by providing more windows of opportunity for workouts. This will accommodate members who prefer to work out late at night or early in the morning.
“As far as Council is aware, Fairfield Leisure Centre will be only one of a handful of local government non-franchise facilities in Australia to offer 24/7 access.”
The gym will be supervised by designated and qualified staff members during existing hours of operation (Monday to Friday 5.45am to 9pm and Saturday and Sunday 6.45am to 5.45pm), but will be unsupervised during all other times, including public holidays.
Access is only available to those using member access cards and is via a designated after hours entry point.
Mindful of members’ safety, the Council has introduced CCTV cameras to monitor the premises after hours and emergency/duress buttons have been installed to call the necessary emergency services if needed.
The move to 24/7 opening was adopted by the Fairfield City Council last May.
At the time, Mayor Carbone stated “the fitness industry has been transformed in the past five years through the introduction of 24/7 gyms, personal training studios, outdoor group training and an increase in yoga and Pilates facilities.
"This transformation is an opportunity for Fairfield Leisure Centre, and specifically its gym, to extend its opening hours to 24 hours throughout the year, including public holidays."
The gym provides commercial weight and cardiovascular equipment as well as other services.
Fairfield Leisure Centre sits at the heart of a growing hub of active aquatic, fitness, recreation and sport facilities including the Fairfield Youth and Community Centre and the Fairfield City Adventure Park.
