Donovan Payne Architects appointed to design City of Wanneroo’s new Alkimos Aquatic and Recreation Centre
The City of Wanneroo has appointed Perth-based Donovan Payne Architects to design the new Alkimos Aquatic and Recreation Centre (AARC).
Donovan Payne Architects have been appointed to deliver the project’s detailed design, while two other businesses will carry out cost planner services for the project.
The announcement of successful tenders at last month’s City of Wanneroo Council meeting follows progression of the land acquisition for the site.
The $70 million facility is set to feature indoor and outdoor swimming pools, gym and fitness facilities, sports courts, a creche, cafe, change rooms and a car park.
A geothermal heating system for the facility is also being explored as an environmentally friendly energy source to offset carbon emissions, in line with the City of Wanneroo’s commitment to sustainability.
Advising that the project had received an outpouring of community support from Perth northern suburbs residents and she was excited to see works progress, Wanneroo Mayor, Linda Aitken stated “It (has been) fantastic to see our community come together and advocate for this much-needed facility.
“I look forward to the detailed designs being developed over the next 12 months.”
Western Australian Sport and Recreation Minister, David Templeman added “I’m pleased to see the project taking shape and look forward to seeing it completed.”
To deliver the facility, the Federal Government has committed $30 million, the Western Australian Government $10 million in funding as well as a portion of land, together with a $10.6 million contribution through the Alkimos-Eglinton Developer Contribution Plan.
Detailed designs will now be developed over the next 12 months.
