Vale: Peter Hunt Architect

Australasian Leisure Management has learnt of the death of respected architect Peter Hunt.

From his base in Western Australia, Hunt designed noteable Perth buildings including the WA Basketball Centre, Beatty Park Aquatic Centre, HBF Stadium, the refurbishment of nib Stadium and the redeveloped Subiaco Oval while nationally he designed the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre, the Hobart Aquatic Centre and the Hurstville Aquatic Centre.

The Executive Chairman of Peter Hunt Architect, Hunt died in November last year after a battle with cancer.

Hunt graduated from Perth Technical College in 1961 and was awarded the prestigious Morawetz Travel Prize, which enabled him to travel overseas and work with top architectural firms in London.

The award opened many doors for Hunt as a young architect and he will continue to help graduates through his Peter Hunt Prize, which is awarded to a Curtin University architecture graduate every year.

As well as a range of leisure projects, Hunt designed a range of commercial, residential, government, education and resources sectors.

One of his final projects was the Hornsby Aquatic and Leisure Centre.

His memorial service at St Joseph's Church, Subiaco was a large gathering of family, friends and industry colleagues.

With offices in Perth and Sydney and associated offices in Brisbane and Melbourne, the Peter Hunt Architect practice continues to operate.
