Organisers limit ticket sales for Bahrain Formula 1 Grand Prix limited to vaccinated and COVID-19 recovered fans

Organisers of the Bahrain Grand Prix have announced that they will only allow fans to attend the Formula 1 season opener if they have been vaccinated against COVID-19 or have recovered from the virus.

The opening round of the 2021 F1 season at the Bahrain International Circuit, running from 26th to 28th March, follows two races having been held at the venue behind closed doors in late 2020.

Formula One has always maintained that it will welcome fans back to its 23-race season when it is safe to do so, but Bahrain is the first venue to limit ticket sales to vaccinated individuals and those who have recovered.

The Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) said the decision had been taken "in line with government health advice" and those buying tickets must be able to prove their eligibility via the BeAware Bahrain app.

Fully-vaccinated individuals must have allowed at least two weeks to pass since receiving their second dose, while recovered COVID-19 cases must have allowed two weeks to pass since the date of infection.

Fans will be required to wear masks at all times and will be subject to a health screening on entry, while all entertainment and fan experiences will be held outdoors. Social distancing will also be in place.

Restrictions means there will be no F1 Paddock Club hospitality or corporate lounges functioning over the weekend.

Looking forward to the race weekend, Bahrain International Circuit Chief Executive, Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa stated “we are delighted to … once again give fans the opportunity to witness the spectacle of F1

“In November and December last year, we had the honour to host our healthcare heroes as spectators, and we are pleased this time be open for a broader group of fans, with tickets available to buy for this prestigious first race of the season.”

F1’s Grand Prix Promoter Chloe Targett-Adams recently expressed her hope that the “majority” of races in 2021 would welcome fans, especially towards the end of the season.

A BIC statement added that outdoor food, beverage and fan experiences have been "carefully selected to allow for social distancing and enhanced sanitation measures".

Last year select healthcare workers were allowed to attend the two races held in Bahrain.
