Australian Waterslides completes ‘dry’ slide for The Big Banana
Australian Waterslides & Leisure has recently completed the installation of an innovative ‘dry’ slide for The Big Banana attraction in the NSW city of Coffs Harbour.
Drawing on Australian Waterslides & Leisure’s years of experience in manufacturing and installing waterslides, the six-lane racer stands 17.5 metres high, is 83 metres in length and has been described as the largest slide of its kind in Australia.
Opened in advance of the recent Easter holidays, the slide was installed into an existing building that had previously housed the attraction’s artificial snow slope but which had been unused for some years.
Australian Waterslides & Leisure Managing Director Annette Matthews explains “we had to meet the challenge of working in the cramped space inside the building and overcame the roof height constraints to suit the ride profile by engineering steel modifications to allow the removal of roof trusses, allowing more head space.”
Named ‘The Racer’, the new attraction boasts a number of facilities including a private party room, kiosk, interactive amusement machines and parking just outside the entry.
The slide also encourages a healthy dose of competition with an electronic score board showing time and position of the riders at the finish line.
The Racer is a new addition to a number of attractions already available at the iconic ‘Big Thing’, including laser tag, mini golf, waterslides, toboggan ride and an ice skating rink.
