Wine inspired splash park opens in the Barossa Valley
Looking to provide enhance facilities for children and families, South Australian holiday park Discovery Barossa Valley has opened a new outdoor aquatic play feature.
Working in conjunction with the resort, recreation specialists Parkequip supplied a new Waterplay® splash park that makes a clever pairing of local tourism and aquatic play.
Discovery Parks General Manager, Damien Gallacher wanted to offer an attraction that would increase visitor demand and enhance their plans to expand the park.
Inspired by spray park successes at other Discovery park destinations, Gallacher’s team chose a zero-depth splash pad and activity tower design that would pay tribute to the region's agricultural heritage.
Gallacher explains “Barossa’s design was challenging for us initially as it’s an inland park, located in a rural farming district
“Working with the ParkEquip team Discovery Parks were able to achieve a play design inspired by the surrounding landscape (with) the green and burgundy colour palette representing our local grape vines.”
For children, the splash park’s activity tower comes to life with giant showering leaves and round grape buckets that fill with water before spilling onto water players below.
Extending over 500 metre², the splash pad caters for different age ranges: toddlers can play safely among gentle spray features, while older water players and parents can get drenched under the mega soaker’s 180 litre splash.
Commenting on the project, Gallacher added “without a shadow of a doubt, ParkEquip is exceptional to work with not only for the delivery of the product but of the experience as well.
“Their team provided on-the-ground support during the construction, and the result was seamless,” Discovery Parks filmed the entire installation and assembly process, presented in their time-lapse video below.
The water park officially opened to guests before Christmans and by January, the park's bookings had doubled from the previous year.
As Gallacher concluded “we’re very excited - not only about the water park but what it’s going to do for us across the valley.”
The Barossa Valley, one of the world’s premium wine and tourism destinations, sits an hour north of Adelaide and draws visitors from across the globe.
