URBNSURF Sydney announces 13th May public opening
The much-anticipated opening of the URBNSURF Sydney wave park has been announced today with the official public opening date to be held on Monday 13th May.
With the surfing attraction’s first waves generated at an event this morning, Sydney’s first-ever wave park is projected to contribute a net economic benefit of $250 million to the Sydney Olympic Park area over the next two decades.
This morning’s event brought together a mix of professional male and female surfers, industry stakeholders and spokespeople from URBNSURF, Surfing NSW, AppleJack and RipCurl.
Built at a cost of more than $75 million on the site of a former overflow car park at Sydney Olympic Park, the attraction spans a 3.6 hectare site, with a lagoon similar in size to the Sydney Cricket ground, designed to accommodate up to 1,000 daily visitors and open seven days a week.
Once operational it will feature a Surf Academy, a leisure swimming pool, a skate pad, a Rip Curl retail store, a health and wellness centre and two food offerings by Applejack, RAFI URBNSURF and Sandy’s.
The upcoming opening will make URBNSURF the only brand and company to develop and operate two surf parks in the world, with the new attraction joining URBNSURF Melbourne which opened in 2020.
A statement from URBNSURF advised that “recognising the iconic Sydney surf culture, the park offers an inclusive way to experience the sport of surfing from expert to beginner wave settings and everything in between.
“The world-class Wavegarden technology will ensure members, guests and those trying surfing for the first time will be able to experience perfect waves all year-round. All sessions are on hour long, pump 400 waves per hour and provide up to 12 perfect waves per person.”
