Toowoomba’s Oakey Aquatic Centre to be upgraded for summer season

Toowoomba Regional Council will be commencing works mid-2021 to improve the Oakey Aquatic Centre with upgrades anticipated to be completed just in time for summer.

The project will include new family change rooms, new facilities to improve access for people with a disability and a new kiosk.

TRC Environment and Community Services Committee Chair James O’Shea said the project will breathe new life into the much-loved Oakey Aquatic Centre and noted “the existing kiosk and change rooms have served the community very well over the years but corrosion and general wear and tear have impacted these buildings and they are now in need of an update.

“The current kiosk and change rooms will be demolished to make way for new and improved facilities including family changing rooms and better access to the Aquatic Centre for people with a disability.

“Construction will begin soon and I’m happy to say most of the works will be completed during winter months while the Centre is closed.

“The pool will reopen in September but with some outstanding works to demolish the old buildings still needed to be completed which may cause some minor disruption to the community.

“Oakey Aquatic Centre is a great community-based facility and once these improvement works are complete, it will be an even better facility to be enjoyed by the community for many years to come.”
