New Corowa Aquatic Centre set to welcome the public

By Nigel Benton

Federation Council is set to open its new Corowa Aquatic Centre to the public on Monday, with locals eager to experience the $10.2 million facility.

The long-awaited facility features a 50 metre pool set within the town’s Ball Park Precinct, a 25 metre indoor pool, indoor program pool, children’s aquatic play area and café.

Officially opened this week at a ceremony attended by Albury MP Justin Clancy and other official guests, with Corowa resident and Swimming Pool Advisory Committee member Ida Mensforth cutting the ribbon at the launch event.

The new facility, delivered by Hines Constructions, is Federation Council’s largest single project since council was formed in 2016 following the merger of Corowa and Urana Shires.

Federation Council Mayor, Patrick Bourke said Council was thrilled to deliver a new modern aquatic centre for the betterment of Council’s residents, stating “our new aquatic centre is not only beautiful and fun, it also features a full array of accessibility features, so it’s a place for everyone to enjoy.

“The Ball Park Precinct is one of the most astonishing assets we have in the Federation Region, and with the addition of the new Aquatic Centre, and other proposed works planned for the precinct in our recently adopted masterplan, this will add to ambience on offer and be drawcard for our region.”

Mayor Bourke was pleased to see the community and Council’s vision of creating a modern aquatic centre come to fruition, adding “it is something that I know Council, our Swimming Pool Advisory Committee and all other stakeholders are very proud of and I look forward with anticipation to celebrating this special occasion.

“The support Council and our community has received from the NSW State Government in respect to this project is much appreciated. This project is a fine example of the success that can come from local government and state government working together for the benefit of our communities.”

The Council is in the final stages of delivering a number of business assets relating to the project, including a new dedicated Corowa Aquatic Centre website, social media platform, online membership portal and online booking software system.
