The Y Brisbane Chief Executive Alan Bray to step down after 15 years

YMCA Brisbane Chief Executive Alan Bray has announced he will step down by September 2022 after 15 years in the role.

Having led the Y to achieve outstanding results, Bray believes the organisation is ready for a new leader to bring a fresh perspective to achieving its mission leaving a strong legacy of maximising social impact underpinned by commercial endeavours.

Under his leadership, the Y has more than doubled in size, growing in scope, assets and turnover. This includes the establishment of seven new vocational school campuses, seven community centres, two affordable housing complexes (with a third under construction), four new gymnastics facilities, 30 OSHC services and the expansion of the schools’ breakfast program to provide more than 700,000 free meals every year.

Advising of his departure, Bray (pictured) noted “this was not an easy decision as the Y is a wonderful organisation with a very bright future and highly committed and supportive staff teams who are focused on delivering on our mission.”

Considering its next steps, the Board of Directors at YMCA Brisbane has decided to conduct an internal and external search for Bray’s successor - hoping that internal candidates will apply - with the process being managed by OnTalent on behalf of the YMCA’s Board.

YMCA Brisbane Board President, Heather Allan commented “Alan is leaving the Y in a very strong position, despite the significant challenges of the past two years. His outstanding leadership and tireless commitment to ensuring an unbreakable organisation that meets the needs of our local communities, has provided a robust foundation for years to come.”
