YMCA Action Sports to host 2022 Moomba Street Championships
YMCA Action Sports is gearing up for the 2022 Moomba Street Championships with registrations now open for Australia’s best talent in skate, scoot and BMX to battle for top honours at Riverslide Skate Park in Melbourne.
This will be the seventh year YMCA Action Sports will host the event, with the skateboard event sanctioned by national body Skate Australia Inc. The Moomba Street Championship has grown to include three major skate park events run over the four-day Moomba Festival from 11th-14th March.
All events are open to all athletes from around Australia, with no qualifying events for the Championship held due to COVID-19. Divisions for each event will range from under 10s right through to Pro.
More than two hundred competitors are expected to take part, from amateurs to Olympians, all competing for thousands of dollars in prize money and goods. For some in the Open BMX divisions it is their pathway to one of the qualifying events for Olympic selection.
YMCA Action Sports Manager Alice Hogan advises “YMCA Action Sports is excited to host the Street Championships at Riverslide Skatepark as part of Melbourne’s iconic Moomba Festival. It will be the best place to watch Australia’s next generation of young Olympians and see why these sports are on the rise.”
“The 2022 Moomba Australian Skateboarding League Street Championships will follow the Olympic format, including two 45 second runs, five best trick and top five scores. We have world skate qualified judges looking forward to seeing what the athletes have prepared.”
Registrations now open at skatepark.ymca.org.au/moomba
