YMCA Victoria secures Boroondara City Council recreation facilities contract

Boroondara City Council has awarded YMCA Victoria a renewed contract for the management and operation of its Boroondara Leisure and Aquatic Facilities, a contract which is one of the largest in Australia.

This contract includes the management of Ashburton Pool and Recreation Centre, Boroondara Sports Complex, Hawthorn Aquatic and Leisure Centre and Kew Recreation Centre.

The managed facilities within the contract attract approximately 2.6 million visitations annually; manage a total asset value of over $230 million; and an annual turnover of over $23 million.

Welcoming the contract extension, Victoria Chief Executive Carolyn Morris advised“the Y is excited to continue its relationship with City of Boroondara, having worked collaboratively for more than 30 years to positively impact the health and wellbeing of the Boroondara community.

“Across the next contract term YMCA Victoria remains deeply committed to working collaboratively with Council to deliver our award winning safety processes and procedures and to develop innovative and accessible programs and services specifically designed for the Boroondara community.”

The new contract will be for an initial four-year term and two optional three-year extensions. This was endorsed by Council at their meeting held on Monday 25th November 2019 and will commence on Wednesday 1st July 2020.

The Y is committed to being a not-for-profit that places community at its core. This resonates through the organisation’s belief in the power of inspired young, social impact measurements and award-winning services. This includes the Hawthorn Leisure Aquatic and Leisure Centre and Ashburton Pool and Recreation Centre teams, who were this year accredited with Life Saving Victoria's prized Platinum Pool award for providing outstanding levels of safety.

YMCA Victoria has worked in partnership with the Boroondara City Council for more than three decades and have managed all four Boroondara Leisure and Aquatics Facilities since they were included in a single-management contract first formalised in 2011.

A key project Boroondara City Council and YMCA Victoria will work collaboratively to achieve in the new term is the Kew Recreation Centre redevelopment, scheduled to begin works mid-2020. The new facility will be transformed into a state-of-the-art recreation and aquatic facility to suit the community’s diverse range of needs, regardless of age or ability.
