YMCA brings Playnasium to Boroondara

In celebration of National Families Week in May, YMCA Victoria brought its Playnasium initiative to the steps of the Boroondara Civic Centre.

Playnasium aims to encourage family activity by combining playtime with gym time so that parents/carers and children can have fun and be active together. Playnasium transforms regular gym machines by turning the weight of your child, into your weights, so they can play whilst you get a workout.

With YMCA staff on hand to demonstrate how the Playnasium can be used, many parents took the opportunity to get some exercise and engage with their children at the same time.

The two pieces of Playnasium equipment on display was the popular Peek A Boo; designed to work the parents' shoulders and chest and the Row, Row, Row; designed to target the muscles in the back, legs, and core.

YMCA Area Manager Nathan Costin said that the YMCA Playnasium turns children’s happiness into a motivation for health, commenting “research has shown that active parents have children who are more likely to be active and the Playnasium provides an opportunity for families to be active together”.

National Families Week is an initiative of Families Australia and celebrates the vital role that families play in Australian society.
