YMCA reopens pools in Darwin
As of midday today (1st May 2020) YMCA, who manage Parap, Nightcliff and Casuarina swimming pools on behalf of City of Darwin, have managed a smooth transition to re-open with staffing and pool chlorine levels meeting national standards.
City of Darwin have also opened outdoor fitness equipment and playgrounds across the municipality. The Jingili Skate Park and Council basketball and tennis courts will also re-open.
Removal of tape and the cleaning of playground and fitness equipment at City of Darwin’s 128 playgrounds and eight fitness stations has commenced, with works being undertaken by Council staff supported by the Green Army.
Darwin Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis advised “the reopening of these facilities, in time for the long weekend, is great news for our community.
“City of Darwin has had strict maintenance regimes in place for all our facilities throughout the lockdown, which has helped us re-opening very quickly.
“Adhering to social distancing continues to be essential as we transition into the recovery phase of COVID-19.
“City of Darwin has supported our community throughout this crisis by continuing to deliver essential services and moving many programs online, including Fun Bus, Libraries and Healthy Darwin.”
By delivering online programs and services, City of Darwin has reached a broader audience, across Australia and around the world.
Lord Mayor Vatskalis adds “we have learnt a lot during the lock down period and we will be incorporating many of these new skills and learnings into how we do things.”
Planning is currently underway for the reopening of Council Libraries in Darwin City, Nightcliff, Casuarina and Karama and Customer Service at the Civic Centre on 15 May.
