Technogym looks to help set 24-hour Treadmill World Record as part of OUTRUN CANCER fundraising
Global wellness leader Technogym has announced a collaboration with the OUTRUN CANCER initiative to raise funds for The Cancer Council.
The fundraising will feature Mark Avery who will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the furthest distance run on a treadmill in 24 hours to raise funds for The Cancer Council at the Concord Bowling Club from 10am on 12th March 2022.
Technogym, internationally renowned for their quality equipment and programs for athletic training, rehabilitation and wellness, are supporting OUTRUN CANCER in this latest 24-hour treadmill world record challenge.
Technogym will provide the treadmills for the training and event where Avery will attempt to run 265 kilometres in 24 hours to break the Guinness World Record for the furthest distance run on a treadmill in a day.
To explain his inspiration to attempt the 24-hour treadmill world record challenge, Avery commented “in October 2014, out of the blue, my good friend and neighbour Frank was diagnosed with cancer, and sadly, passed away in February 2015.
“And it felt as fast as it took you to read that sentence … I became anxious and depressed. Running brought me out of the darkness, it gave me hope and filled me with purpose to attempt extraordinary things, for myself and for charities and causes I am passionate about.”
Previously in 2017, Technogym worked with Outrun Cancer, during which three Guinness World Records were beaten.
Technogym supplied the equipment, consisting of four Technogym Excite Treadmills that worked around the clock to ensure the teams of runners and Luca Turrini would reach the finish line.
The records broken include:
• Team Male - 12 runners: 400km, 3:10 pace
• Team Female - 12 runners: 318km, 4:11 pace
• Individual Male - 1 runner: 261km, 5:31 pace - attempted by Luca Turrini
Turrini, the current World Record Holder for 24 hours on a treadmill (261.18km), stated “in the six months leading up to my 24-hour record attempt, the Technogym MYRUN Treadmill pulled through the toughest and most challenging sessions, consisting of six to 12 hour stints of continuous speed work and incline - averaging 150km per week, the MYRUN didn’t miss a beat.”
