Tasmanians' wellbeing supported via Healthy Tasmania Fund
As part of the latest Healthy Tasmania Fund round, 26 community-led preventative health projects will share in $2 million funding being allocated by the State Government to improve the health and wellbeing of Tasmanians through a broad range of activities that promote physical activity, healthy and sustainable eating, healthy lifestyles, positive mental health and community engagement.
The Healthy Focus grants – which range from $20,000 to $100,000 - have been awarded to community sector organisations and local councils for a range of projects and activities that support good health across eight focus areas, including the promotion of health literacy, active living and eating well.
The Healthy Tasmania Fund is an important part of the Government’s Healthy Tasmania Five-Year Strategic Plan 2022-2026 to bring together communities, services and all levels of government to work in partnership for improved health and wellbeing.
Tasmanian Premier and Minister for Mental Health and Wellbeing, Jeremy Rockliff notes “All Tasmanians should have the opportunity to live their best lives for as long as possible.
“We know that by taking effective action in preventive health to keep people healthy and well, we can reduce pressure in a sustained way on our health system in the long term.
“Initiatives range from providing mentorship to at-risk young people and establishing community groups to encouraging adults to ride bicycles and supporting communities to cook healthily.
“I look forward to seeing the impact these projects will make to the health and wellbeing of Tasmanians across our great State.”
The Tasmanian Government has committed $8 million in funding over four years to the Healthy Tasmania Fund, which is designed to support people to live healthy, active lives in connected communities.
More than $770,000 in grant funding has already been awarded to almost 100 community-based preventive health initiatives through the fund.
Further funding opportunities will soon be available with a second round of Step Forward grants – grants of up to $5,000 – set to open in July and the second round of Healthy Focus grants to be offered in 2024.
