Western Australian Government funding helps sport clubs to deliver healthy options
The Western Australian Government, through Healthway's Summer Healthy Sporting Club Program, has awarded more than $75,000 to 24 sports clubs from across the State.
Summer sports clubs received up to $4,000 in funding to help build healthy club environments and improve knowledge and awareness of healthy eating and drinking.
The clubs will now work with Healthway and the Western Australian School Canteen Association to increase healthy food and drink options at club-run canteens or kiosks.
The funding will also go towards purchasing equipment so clubs can improve their ability to offer healthy food and drinks and assist staff to complete training to gain a better understanding of healthier options.
Since the program began in 2019, approximately 220 Healthy Sporting Club Grants have been awarded, providing approximately $750,000 in grants to clubs across the State.
Applications for the Winter Healthy Sporting Club Program will open in February 2022. For more information visit https://www.healthway.wa.gov.au
Western Australia Health Minister Roger Cook congratulated all the sporting clubs that have received funding in the Summer Healthy Sporting Program and noted "Sports clubs not only provide physical, mental and social benefits, but are ideally placed to promote healthy food and drink.
"These grants will help clubs make the small changes needed to influence healthier lifestyles in our communities."
