30 Western Australian sporting clubs secure funding to encourage healthy habits

Through Healthway's 2021 Winter Healthy Sporting Club Program, the Western Australian Government has awarded more than $100,000 to 30 Western Australian sports clubs to support their efforts to build healthy sporting club environments.

The initiative sees Healthway partner with the Western Australian School Canteen Association to provide support in education and key resources.

The program provides up to $4,000 in grants to sporting clubs over the 2021 season. The funding enables clubs to increase their healthy food and drink choices at club-run canteens, kiosks or food services, as well as improve awareness of the importance of good nutrition, particularly for young people.

Since the program started in 2019 there have been 205 Healthy Sporting Club Grants awarded, providing $679,862 in grants to metropolitan and regional clubs across Western Australia.

Western Australian Health Minister Roger Cook enthused "It's fantastic to see sporting clubs encouraging their members to develop healthy habits and have access to healthy food and drink options, on and off the field.

"Local sporting clubs are an ideal environment to encourage our community to seek out and embrace healthy choices.

"I'm delighted to see so many clubs reach out to find more ways to benefit their members."

Applications for the 2021 Summer Healthy Sporting Club program will open in August. For more information, visit healthway.wa.gov.au
