Gold Coast community connected through Active and Healthy program
The City of Gold Coast is focussing on uniting its community through education and exercise via their 2022-23 Active and Healthy program.
The popular program offers hundreds of free or low-cost activities across the city, designed to encourage the community to become more active, connected and improve their mental and physical wellbeing.
Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said after two years of unprecedented social restrictions, reuniting the community has never been more important.
“I’m incredibly proud to launch the 2022-23 Active and Healthy program and to inject a sense of connection back into our community,” Mayor Tate said.
“This year’s program has been extended to help people recovering from illness, surgery or mobility issues to ensure no one gets left behind on their health journey.
“The message is simple – together we can, regardless of age, ability, shape or size.
“This message also extends to keeping on top of our health checks. I recently underwent a procedure to screen for bowel cancer as I know the importance of regular check-ups for identifying any early signs of issues.
“Finding problems from the onset means we have higher chances for effective treatment so I recommend in addition to attending an Active & Healthy class, book in with your local GP and find out what health checks are available to you.
“This is a great chance for us all to reset our wellness goals, find classes that work for us and begin our active and healthy lifestyle – together.
“It’s also a timely reminder that a conversation could save a friend’s life – whether it’s asking how they’re going, inviting them to a class or reminding them of a check-up.”
The 2022-2023 Active & Healthy program is presented by the City of Gold Coast and supported by Triple M.
