Southern Hemisphere’s premier sport marketing conference launches for 2015

The 2015 Sports Fan Summit was launched this morning exclusively to Australasian Leisure Management

To be held at Sydney's ANZ Stadium from 22nd to 24th June next year, the 2015 event will have a broad focus on sport and venue marketing with sessions focused on fan development, fan engagement and fan experience; considering those topics from a range of different perspectives.

There will be presentations from the perspective of each of eight different disciplines: Ticketing & Membership, Venues, Sponsorship, Events, Community, Fan Development/Engagement, Social Media and Digital Technology.

Once again, one of the 2015 Sports Fan Summit’s main points of difference is its extensive use of international sport marketing experts. There are already four international speakers locked down for next June, one from Europe and three from the United States:

• Julian Jenkins, President and Chief Executive, Servette FC  - Geneva, Switzerland
• Priya Narasimhan, Chief Executive of Yinzcam - Pittsburgh, USA
• Ted Johnson, SVP & CMO, Minnesota Timberwolves and Minnesota Lynx - Minneapolis, USA
• Steve Fanelli, Executive Director – Ticket Sales & Operations, Oakland As - California, USA

A further three international speakers (including one from the LA Lakers) are provisionally confirmed – with event organiser Simon Arkwright currently working on final approvals and scheduling.

Local Speakers
The criteria for local speakers is that the initiatives they will present about are world-class and represent Best Practice.

Dorothy Hisgrove from the AFL and Terrence Trujillo from the Bulldogs will speak of the community initiatives by their respective organisations.

Described by the then Chief Executive of Global Braun as the Southern Hemisphere’s premier sport marketing event, the conference differs from other conferences both domestically and internationally by focusing on Best Practise rather than Thought Leadership.

Conference Chief Executive Arkwright states “there are any number of interesting things that happen in the Sport Business industry.

“The challenges for the industry are not only the big Issues but also ticket sales, fan experience and game attendance.

“We argue that useful beats interesting so the Sports Fan Summit has a practical focus about delivering ideas and insights that can be implemented by delegates the following weekend”.

Kate Agnew from Netball New Zealand explained that what she loved about Sports Fan Summit is that the high quality communication skills of the selected international Keynotes means that delegates can easily take what is done with huge budgets by NBA and NFL teams and still extract ideas and insights that can then be easily applied to their own club or league in Australia or New Zealand.

2015 is set to be a competitive marketplace for sport marketing conferences with at least two other conferences to be staged in the first half of the year.

Arkwright believes that the Sports Fan Summit is perhaps the best; based on number and expertise of international speakers, focus on Best Practice and cost of attendance.

To ensure that cost of attendance is not a major barrier, the event launch registration cost is just $895 for bookings made prior to Christmas.
