Quayclean secures cleaning and waste management contract for Melbourne Market

Quayclean Australia has been appointed by the Melbourne Market Authority and Plenary Asset Management to provide cleaning, hygiene and waste management services to the Melbourne Market at Epping.

The Melbourne Market is Victoria’s wholesale fruit, vegetable and cut flower trading centre, one of six central fresh produce markets in Australia.

Operating from a purpose-built 67 hectare site, the Market provides the critical link between growers, wholesalers, retailers and the fresh produce supply chain.

Approximately, 2,750 businesses use the Market as a base, buying and selling fresh produce in the early hours of the morning for distribution across Victoria and Australia.

Over 2,000 individual fruit and vegetable buyers, representing independent greengrocers, supermarkets, restaurants and food processors, source their produce direct from the Market.

Quayclean brings a wealth of innovative concepts for managing the extensive waste and recycling along with cleaning methodologies to ensure that the market trading floors and buyers walk are cleaned to the highest standards.

Quayclean Chief Executive, Mark Piwkowski, said the company has a solid understanding of the Market’s operational demands and waste services after delivering a range of specialised onsite services in recent years.

Piwkowski notes “our proven history of managing large sites combined with our diverse skills and experience make Quayclean a best fit for the Melbourne Market.

“Additionally, we will be working collaboratively with the Melbourne Market Authority (MMA) on innovations and strategic improvements that are all geared toward delivering an outstanding stakeholder and user experience along with being an outstanding tactical and strategic partner.

“A component of our role will be to assist and support traders and users on waste steams ensuring a smooth transition and a continued commitment to industry leading recycling and waste diversion programs.”
