Polytan New Zealand to upgrade Maidstone Hockey turf in 2024
Upper Hutt City Council advises that the replacement of the Maidstone Hockey turf carpet has been entrusted to Polytan New Zealand Ltd.
The current turf, installed in 2012 had an anticipated lifespan of 10 to 12 years and is now in line for renewal.
Following discussions with the supplier, a decision was made to enhance the base infrastructure. This strategic move aims to facilitate easier and more cost-efficient future carpet replacements by incorporating a layer of asphalt onto the existing gravel sub-base.
The chosen Poligras surface marks a significant milestone as the first of its kind in New Zealand to be installed without the necessity of irrigation. Noteworthy is its incorporation of Turf Glide technology, the same technology used in the surfaces for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and the upcoming Hockey 5’s World Cup.
A remarkable feature of the chosen Paris GT Zero is its status as the world's inaugural carbon-zero hockey turf. This innovative turf has received FIH Innovation certification for dry hockey. By utilising sugarcane as a bio-raw material, the Poligras Paris GT Zero turf achieves a remarkable reduction of 73 tonnes of CO2 compared to conventional turfs. Its carbon footprint has been officially recognized as climate-neutral by the Berlin-based DAkkS accredited consulting company GUTcert.
All going to plan with weather the turf will be back in operation ready for the winter season from the 1st April 2024.
