A series of recent discussions about the content of this website has prompted Australasian Leisure Management Publisher Nigel Benton to highlight this website’s editorial policy and clarify some misconceptions about the content that you are reading.
Benton explains “journalism is changing and many news-based industry websites are moving to a model were editorial is no longer that but is paid ‘advertorial’.
“That is not Australasian Leisure Management’s approach.
“It may be a bit ‘old school’ but, based on a belief that paid ‘advertorial’ is useless our content is unpaid for, independent and, I believe, credible.
”So, at all times we welcome editorial contributions, press releases, research, opinion and similar input - which we publish without charge.”
As Australasian Leisure Management, like most publications, relies on advertising income, we do also run editorial on related products and services but this is to inform readers of products and services relevant to them and their operations and business.
Reporting what’s best about this industry
With an aim to enhance professionalism, communication and understanding within the leisure industry and to promote the economic and social significance of the industry to the widest possible audience, Australasian Leisure Management sets out to report best about this industry.
However, Benton explains “where appropriate we do scrutinise, not for sensation but in order that mistakes can be learned from.”
The ‘L’ word
The industry we define as ‘leisure’ is about what people do in their out-of-home free time when they are not shopping, eating, driving or gambling and largely covers aquatics, attractions, entertainment, events, fitness, parks, recreation, sport, tourism and venues.
Our coverage is not as narrow as some definitions of leisure where the word leisure is used to define aquatics and recreation centres, amusement arcades and gaming/gambling.
